reflection: resale
Since moving to Houston in 2004, I have lived in 4 separate locations. While living at each of these locations, I have become aware of articles of clothing that I have not worn since the move. My inability to rid myself of this (attire) has gradudally peaked my curiosity. In an attempt to deny being a (clothing packrack), I began a series entitled Reflection: Resale. In this series, I (sift) through my wardrobe, extracting articles that are unused. Then, I reflect on what memories are associated with these particular articles of clothing, revealing my inability to discard them. Afterwards, I dress myself in this attire and photograph it in the form of outfits. These photographs will be presented in a web-based project in which I become a "paperdoll" that the viewer can "dress." In creating this series, I become aware of identities that I have assumed.
Recordings
In this project, I will collect found cds, storing them in a cd case, and recording the date/location on/at which they were found. I plan to display this work in a space in which the viewer can interact with the individual cds. Each cd will be placed in its own player, with adjoined headphones. The viewer will receive the audio information on the cd (in whatever state it may be) in addition to the date/location.
Re:Construction
Tomorrow marks the start of my latest project, entitled "Re:Construction: A Visual Preservation of Houston's Innerloop." Through this project, I plan to utilize the City of Houston website - the Online Permits, specifically. From November 1st, 2007 until the onset of the installation of this project (predictably 6 months), I will check the City of Houston website for the latest Sold Permits added to the site that are specific to the demolition of residential properties within Houston's Innerloop. I will be recording not only the dates and locations of these properties' demolition, but additionally will be photographing each property. After 6 months of documentation, I will be able to provide a cumulative collection and/or record of the residential properties within Houston's Innerloop that are inevitably to be removed.
